This Year – Let Love Lead

A well known, spiritual mind shifting book, A Course in Miracles, encourages us to embrace the idea of “I don’t understand anything.” Meaning to really truly grow and savor life you need to let go of your old stories and beliefs about what something or someone means.

It happens all the time, often quite subtly. You might see a video summit with all these experts lined up with their happy shiny faces and say to yourself, I’ll never be with that group.

Or as you are finishing up your financial books for the year, you have a constant hum of, it’s not enough. It’s never enough. It’ll never change.

Embracing the practice of “I don’t understand anything” means letting go that you know how things are or will unfold. Example,… You are a procrastinator. You’re not creative. You only make X amount of money – you can’t go higher.

Identifying these powerful stories that run your life is a first step in stepping into new possibilities.

When you start identifying these underlying stories that run underneath your dreams, plans and actions then you start loosening up the potential for what’s possible.

The second step is to let go of these old stories and beliefs and how they shape everything you do. This is where healing, forgiveness practices and working with a coach can help.

The next step is to embrace new empowered stories and beliefs that better support your expansion, dreams and desires.

As Marianne Williamson, author of the best seller, A Return to Love, says, the key to this is to give love a chance.

Loving yourself enough to own your unique beautiful brilliance and gifts.

Loving yourself enough to say that your preferences and desires matter.

Loving yourself enough to claim your dream to creative positive change in the world with your business, presence, and leadership.

Loving yourself enough to know that you are enough.

Loving others enough to claim your voice so you can provide better solutions for your soul tribe’s aches, pains and struggles.

Loving others enough to let go of wondering if you matter and your work matters. Treat yourself and your work as though it already matters.

Loving others enough to be vulnerable enough to step into your authentic leadership.

Loving the world enough to show up and make your unique contribution.

Loving the world enough to stop questioning is your contribution enough. Like the Little Drummer Boy who gave his beloved music, trust it is exactly what is needed.

Loving the world enough to be open and curious to where leading with love will take you.

This year we are finding our sea legs. We’ve hibernated and re-evaluated, and now it’s time to step out and be a contribution. Balancing, dancing, pivoting…being nimble with all the uncertainty and changing waters.

You can’t control the ocean, but you can show up day after day and adjust your sails to navigate the ever-changing winds and water.

With love as your guiding light.

You never know whose life you’ll change. Starting with your own.

A Refreshing Way to View Business Planning

In my 20 years of being a business coach, I find that most entrepreneurs have a love/hate relationship with business plans.

Especially solo owned businesses.

There’s often a belief (check in to see if this is you) that creating a plan will box you in and take away your freedom and creative expression – two of the very reasons you got into business in the first place.

This is so not true!

In fact, creating a plan for the upcoming year gives you the clarity you’ve been craving and some structure to lean into.

Creating a business plan helps you become clear about your vision for the year and what you are saying yes to.

When you know what you are saying yes to…it helps you say no to all the other stuff that is begging for your attention and money!

A living business plan will help you immensely with guiding your business throughout the year, helping you make decisions that are in alignment with your plan.

Notice I said, “living” business plan.

A business plan isn’t a static thing, where you decide a path and stay the course and go down with the ship fighting. (I don’t know why that metaphor came to mind, but you get the idea…that somehow once your write down a plan that you can’t change your mind and you are committed at all costs!)

A more modern way of looking at a business plan is that it’s a living thing like your business is a living entity.

It will grow and evolve.

Think of it like a garden. Some things will grow faster than planned. Others stagnate or dry up. Or, some new cool fertilizer comes out that makes everything else obsolete.

Same for your business plan.

It is the home for your vision. Once you get into action, new opportunities come your way, new technologies are born, programs take off, some programs become outdated or you lose interest, or you hire help to get things done and are able to be more visible…you’re always tending to the business plan as it grows and evolves.

A living business plan is meant to guide you through the year. So, when new opportunities come your way, you can more easily say yes or no depending on what you are committed to in your plan.

And new opportunities always come your way!

Your plan will change and evolve as you market and develop relationships.

If you don’t have a plan then EVERYTHING looks like a good idea.

That leads to overwhelm.

Which will keep you stuck, hiding or pretending.

Here are a few ideas about a living business plan:

  1. A living business plan is a place where you can put your ideas. Getting them out of your head and onto paper will free up energy and you’ll feel such relief!
  2. You always want to have your bigger vision in your living business plan. It reminds you of the bigger picture for where you are going, what you’re creating and why. It’s easy to lose your way and think your business should look like someone else’s.
  3. Break your business plan down into 90 day increments. It’s easier to focus on what you’re going to be doing in the next two months than in 10 months from now. Plus, depending on how it goes your plan may change.
  4. This time of year, is the perfect time to take an inventory. What programs, certifications, products do you offer. What is working? What do you love doing?

Same goes for marketing strategies. What is working for you? What do you enjoy doing? What do you want to let go of?

I’m always surprised at how clients will suddenly mention a book they wrote or a certification they have from 3 years ago that they totally forgot about.

  5. Remember the key to your success is to “simplify and amplify.” It’s not about adding a ton of programs and marketing strategies. Keep it simple and look at how to do fewer ideas really well rather than spreading your energy and efforts too thin.

I encourage my clients to create a Beacon Marketing Strategy. One great marketing idea that you can use all year long to build your audience, your list, while spreading your message and growing your visibility, like podcast, youtube channel, or even weekly tips.

  6. Make sure to include your money flow! You don’t have to be afraid or worried that if you pick a revenue number that you’ll fail and be disappointed. ( It’s the most common concern I hear, I swear you won’t be whipped in the public square!) I work with clients to set 3 money goals – easy, great and heaven. Stretching into the bigger numbers gently and with grace. If you ignore the money part of the plan…guaranteed money will ignore you!
  7. Schedule RAP time throughout the year. RAP = Reflection, Alignment and Planning time. To make the most of your living business plan you want to check in with it throughout the year. Adding ideas, letting go of what isn’t working or relevant any more or getting yourself back into alignment with what you really want.
  8. A business plan doesn’t have to be heavy and boring. It doesn’t have to be full of spreadsheets – or any spreadsheets at all! It can be done as a list, using mindmaps, or visuals. Whatever helps you make choices and commitments about all those ideas.

And lastly, you’ll want to schedule some time this winter to create your living business plan. This RAP time will pay off with the relief, peace and confidence you’ll gain creating your plan!

{Marketing Magic} Do you feel crazy?

Welcome to December!

It’s the end of the year! Whew! We have just about made it!

I’m noticing a lot of anticipation, hope and even expectations that 2022 will be the year of a shift. Many of you are making friends (somewhat? Even a little?) of living in a world with more uncertainty and making a choice to move forward anyway.

I’m finding a lot of excitement about what’s possible next year!

Today’s article is perfect if you are feeling the pull of moving forward with your Soul Work and yet sometimes feel like you are crazy! Read on for a new perspective!

The last two days I’ve been meeting with my clients Michelle Goss and Jeanine Mancusi of Coaching Transformation for their annual Creative Business Retreat. We are meeting in a beautiful waterfront home…it’s so inspiring to let the water, clouds and energy of the environment add to the visioning, creating, and receiving while we create a living plan for their next year. Talk about excitement for 2022!

I also hope you join me in some of the creative business expanding opportunities that are coming up to support the expansion in your business!

Do you feel crazy?

Recently I was talking with a colleague friend. We were sharing business and life stuff. Our conversation had a range of topics – mine included talking about my new website and trying to “land” the compelling copy for my home page plus other things about moving back to my hometown by the ocean.

After we’d been talking for a while, she pointed out that several times I had said something about …people might think I’m crazy.

She was gently asking…is that really true? That wasn’t her experience of me.

I laughed out loud!

Last week I had been stretching into owning my message, which as you as a dear reader know, isn’t that of a typical business coach.

I was also feeling the vulnerable courage and bravery of talking about what I do for my website and with lots of new friends and several relatives who still don’t get what I do.

What I was worrying and wondering that people might not “get me.”

I know they aren’t my Soul Tribe.

And, sometimes it feels frustrating and kinda itchy when you are speaking to “muggles” who can’t really fathom the world that you live in – anything or everything from your world view to passion for an alternative way of healing and transforming something in our lives.

I am reminded of how we are all called to do our Soul Work. It is visionary.

You are a visionary. A pioneer. A maverick.

No, you aren’t crazy. You are a rebel. A creative.

I was meeting with private clients at their retreat here in a beautiful house on the water yesterday. In the distance we can see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. It is 17 miles of bridges and tunnels across the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

Think of the person who first proposed that idea. They were probably told they were crazy!

Or the creator of the Eiffel Tower, the elevator or even gluten-free muffins that taste good!

Next time you feel like you might be crazy, just remember you are a visionary changemaker.

There are people ready for what you have. They are ready to fall in love and join you in your passion for this alternative way of being and doing!

Be brave and keep showing up!

Are you ready to expand your Soul Work?

Are really to look at your business in a different way? Rather than struggling with your business…what if you shifted your relationship? Your relationship is a place for your creative self expression, meaningful work and a way to make great money with your passion?

It’s time to set down your fight with business and let it be more easeful, creative and authentic.

You are designed to flourish!

Together we can finally access your deeper true voice, leadership and creativity…while shifting those blocks that are getting in the way of you growing your beautifully successful business.

I’d love to talk with you about liberating your true voice, intuition, energy alignment, creativity, along with the practical doing stuff that gets you engaged with your Soul Tribe.

Just reply to this email and we’ll find a time to talk about ways I can support your success!
