5 Ways to Take Back Your Power

Recently I was a guest on a teleseminar for a Jill Badonsky training program for creativity coaches. It was a terrific call about attraction energy meets smart business actions. These coaches want a new way of doing business - one that honors their creative expression and right brain approach AND they are ready for more financial success in their businesses! We were a fit made in heaven - or soul sisters as one coach put it!

One of the questions that came up is an issue I'm working with almost all of my clients on too. What do I do in these "tough economic times"?

Many of us have been affected by the current economic cycle either directly or indirectly. Almost all of us have been affected by the media and the crisis headlines repeatedly escalating the "fear factor" and anxiety on us constantly.

I truly believe that what you focus on today you create tomorrow. We are powerful energetic beings. Where we place our attention - on our thoughts, feelings, words and actions have an impact on what shows up in our lives.

In addition to knowing our powerfulness in our spiritual energetic side, I also believe in our practical action-oriented side. Blending the two together will have you grounded in practicality and keep your energy focused on what you really want instead of what you are afraid of getting.

Here are five strategies to help you manage your energy and hold your focus on what your really want to attract and act upon in your business.

  1. Back away from the TV! Everywhere we look there is a television - the airport, restaurants, home and even the elevator. It's up to you to take control. Stop being a victim to random TV listening and watching crisis headlines over and over, all the while letting the intensity of the messages seep into your body. Unrestricted and unaware you will find that your body is tensing up, your breathing becomes shallow and your energy is constricted. You can't create a successful business from this place - at least it's not easy too.

You are in charge. Make a choice! Turn away, leave, ask to change the channel and by all means be selective about your own TV!

Create life-enhancing and nurturing habits. Look at your favorite news site for 3 minutes during the day. That's it! Set a timer if you have to so you don't get drawn in. Catch up on what's happening so you feel informed and then click off. This way you will know what's happening (like a storm is coming) but you don't have to dwell in all the negativity.

  2. Don't buy into the panic. Notice the words and stories you share with others. Are you perpetuating the panic by sharing stories of long gas lines, re-living negative news stories, and watching for which business is closing, etc.? If this is where your mind is focused you will attract more stories to support your belief that the sky is falling. And let me tell you, it's really hard to "push" yourself to complete a project or attract new clients when you feel helpless and hopeless. Protect your energy and the environment around you - even if that means walking away from negative spiraling conversations.

Most of my clients want to grow their business and break through to the "next level" of success for them. It's difficult to step out onto the edge, create, build, enroll and engage if you are feeling down and negative. That's why it's critical (if you really need a "critical - do something now" type of message - THIS is it!) to protect and manage your energy!

  3. Be smart about your business. When things are tough economically for so many people, you do want to be smart about your business practices. Now is a good time to make sure that you have signed contracts, your cancellation policies are clear, and that your guarantee on your services and products are specific. Remember to act not from place of fear - not from a place of, "oh, my gosh, I better get my policies cleaned up because everyone is going to back out since there is no money!" panic.....but from an empowering place of graciousness and being of service.

It feels really good to know that you are clear in your business practices. Actually, a really good guarantee is a terrific way to engage someone in your product or program because they know they are protected should it not meet their expectations. Most people won't take you up on the guarantee but it does help them move ahead with an investment with a certain level of confidence. I just registered for a workshop that costs several thousands of dollars and felt great because the presenter said my satisfaction is guaranteed through the end of the workshop!

  4. Get creative with your products and services. Have you been thinking about creating an alternative source of income from an information product? Many seasoned business owners are ready to put their experience and expertise into a product or a packaged service to better leverage their time and make more money. Now is a great time to consider adding a product to your offerings. Some of your clients might want to buy a CD and a workshop package instead of investing in individual services with you at this time, or maybe they want a teleclass series instead of an in person workshop. This is also a great time to add a variety of installment plan options for your online products. Try a 4 pay or 5 pay option for your more expensive products or programs. It's more of a low risk investment for your fans and keeps the cash flowing and your work getting out into the world.

  5. Look for 5 signs of prosperity and abundance in your life and business - EVERY DAY! They are there. I guarantee it! Look around you for the articles, stories and conversations about who is doing surprising well. For example - this year I am expecting to at a minimum triple my income! There's one success story for your list! Last week I read an article in USA Today about more people than ever following their passions in their careers. That's a 2nd great sign! You'll also notice money showing up in surprising ways and an abundance of good, beauty and joy in the world - if only you look for it and acknowlege it!

Your commitment to this attitude and these business-enhancing actions will change your business! You KNOW that when you are feeling positive and in the flow and in touch with your creativity and confidence anything is possible. You are creating the environment for business miracles!
